June 2, 2011 Update: Duke Nukem, Assassin’s Creed, Metro, Batman, Deus Ex, Aliens, Starcraft 2, Portal 2 Soundtrack.

The Dukem Nukem Forever trailer is out, and I think this game will be really fun. Shooters these days take themselves to seriously, and it’s about time they get silly again.

Assassin’s Creed: Revelations trailer has been released. I think the Assassin’s Creed games are coming out too fast. They are coming out with the frequency of Call of Duty games, it’s getting ridiculous.

Metro: Last Light trailer, a sequel to Metro 2033, is out. I really enjoyed the original, and I can’t wait to see what’s to come.

A trailer for Batman: Arkham City is out, and it shows Cat Women as a playable character. If women don’t cos-play as this cat women I’ll be disappointed.

Deus Ex keeps shows us more trailers, I just want them to release the game already!

Apparently an Aliens game is coming out, whether it’ll be better than the AVP game is uncertain.

Starcraft 2: Heart of the Swarm trailer is out, but it doesn’t really show much.

Valve was nice enough to release the Portal 2 soundtrack for FREE, along with some ringtones.

May 20th, 2011 Update: Hitman, Call of Duty, The Darkness 2, Demon’s Souls 2, Binary Domain, inFamous 2, Shadows of the Damned.

Here’s a big update since it’s been awhile.

A new Hitman is coming out, Hitman Absolution. The Hitman series is one of my favorite series of all time, and I have been dying for another one.

Another Call of Duty game is coming out, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. It’s almost a joke the frequency they’re coming out now. I’ve become so bored with the Call of Duty series as of late.

The Darkness 2 has been announced. The first game got me into The Darkness comics, and the game just didn’t live up to the comics. In the comics, he would have scores of minions, but in the game you could only have two and they were worthless. The Darkness is the power of creation, but the game just didn’t use that like it should have. Hopefully this one is better.

Demon’s Souls 2 is coming out, under the name Dark Souls. I still haven’t beat the first one because the difficulty is just so intense, and it looks like this game is even harder.

This game Binary Domain looks interesting, but the plot is more than a little cliche.

This is another trailer for inFamous 2. It’s looking good, but for some reason I’m not excited for it as much as I was awhile ago.

This trailer for Shadows of the Damned is hilarious, and if the game has this many innuendo’s, it could be awesome.

New Nintendo Console

Apparently there is a new Nintendo console going to be announced this month, code named Project Cafe. Supposedly it is more powerful then the PS3 and Xbox 360, and will be in 1080p HD resolution. The controller supposedly has a 6 inch touch screen that will be able to stream content from the console. This new console is apparently supposed to bring back the hardcore audience.

I have just a few comments about this whole thing:

1) I kinda expected another console to be announced soon because Wii sales have been doing terrible, they just aren’t selling as many consoles or games as they were.

2) the name Project Cafe sounds really douche to me, and doesn’t excite me into buying it. The name Revolution that the Wii originally had was much more exciting than Project Cafe. Unless this new console injects coffee into you, I don’t see why that should be it’s code name.

3) by going HD, is Nintendo admitting that they should have had that with the Wii?

4) by having a controller that has a screen that streams content from the console, will you even need a TV to play it?

5) Nintendo is trying to get back the hardcore audience, so will this new console abandon the casual audience be left out in the cold?

I’m interested to see what Nintendo will do will do with this new console, and I’ll keep updating on it.

Portal 2 Update and Give-Away!

Portal 2 comes out on April 19, so in order to prepare everyone I’m doing a big update. Valve has released some new video about Portal 2, and they have me frothing at the mouth.

Valve has released a short comic series that takes place between the first and second Portal games. Check it out HERE.

And in order to celebrate Portal 2 coming out in a week, I’m giving away a Steam copy of the original Portal!

Here are the rules:

1) Send an email to wiredabyssgiveaway@gmail.com with “PORTAL” in the subject. A winner be chosen at random.

2) The contest is open until April 17, 2011.

3) Your email address will not be given to others or be sold.

Good Luck!!

March 28th News Update

  • Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City was confirmed by Capcom. It’s a 4-player co-op shooter set during Resident Evil 2 where you play as an Umbrella squad sent in after the outbreak. It will apparently feature competitive multiplayer, which sounds like maybe the worst thing ever coming from the Resident Evil team. Still, co-op was the best part of RE4 and 5, so look forward to that.
  • The full Mortal Kombat roster has been leaked. Robo-Sub-Zero is pretty badass, but Quan Chi and Sheeva? Ew.
  • Nintendo’s Reggie Fils-Aime clarified his quotes from earlier this month about “garage developers” stating that Nintendo wants to work with people who are experienced in the industry. Sorry, Reggie, but I’d much rather play Game Dev Story or Cut the Rope than fucking Faceez: Monsters!. That’s an actual game that came out on DSiWare today. Seriously, look it up.
  • Team Teamwork released their new videogame soundtrack/rap mashup Super Nintendo Sega Genesis. Check out their other 2 albums well you’re at it.
  • The new Mass Effect 2 DLC comes out tomorrow. There is a trailer. I am super excited now.
  • Amy Adams has been cast as Lois Lane in the new Superman movie. I still have no confidence in the movie because it’s by Zack Snyder, but at least there’s that.
  • Finally, Rooster Teeth has a great fake trailer for Angry Birds: The Movie.

March 19, 2011 Update: RAGE, Portal 2, Duke Nukem Forever, Battlefield 3.

PAX East is over, and there was some amazing coverage from it. G4 got an game-play preview of RAGE. I’m very excited for this game, it has hand crafted environments, amazing character animations and lots of unique ideas.

G4 also got another preview of Portal 2, which looks AMAZING. I’m getting really excited now, and I’m so happy that it’s longer than the first one.

There’s also this brand new Portal 2 TV Spot. I find the Co-op characters very charming.

They also got yet another preview of Duke Nukem Forever. I don’t know how to feel about this game, I’m torn between thinking this will be crap, to thinking this will be pretty good.

Back at GDC, G4 got a preview of Battlefield 3. I’m not really excited about his game, yes it has nice graphics and some nice looking mechanics, but its just missing something. They’re also saying they’re focusing more on story, whether the story will be any good is a completely different story. There’s not much new to the formula, and frankly I’m getting quite bored with the modern warfare kind of game.

GDC 2011 Wrap-Up

Yeah, I know it’s a little late, but here’s a quick wrap-up of all the big news from this year’s GDC (Game Developers Conference).

  • Team Meat confirmed they’re working on a 3DS game. This most likely means 3D chainsaw blades, in which case fuck that. (But Super Meat Boy is awesome, go play it.)
  • Angry Birds Seasons will be getting a St. Patrick’s Day update, and more Angry Birds is always a good thing.
  • Infamous 2 will have a level creator, which seems crazy in a single-player, story focused game like that. I have faith in Naughty Dog, though.
  • Minecraft creator Notch is making a collectible card game, even though Minecraft technically isn’t even released yet.
  • Nintendo’s keynote announcements: Netflix, Super Mario 3DS, and Game Gear/Turbografx-16 games are all coming to the 3DS. Netflix seems like it would be an awful experience on a DS screen, and who the hell wants to buy digital copies of Game Gear games?
  • Yu Suzuki says he thinks Shenmue 3 is going to happen. YES PLEASE.
  • Double Fine announced their new mech game, Trenched. Double Fine, along with Telltale, is a developer I will buy anything from sight unseen, so sounds good to me.
  • Epic showed off an AMAZING real-time demo of the new Unreal engine.
